Ethics workshops for Registered Auditors – October 2012

If you missed the Ethics Workshops in January and February of this year, we are pleased to be able to offer a few more workshops to interested RAs.

 

Workshop content

This practical and interactive ethics workshop will expose participants to the application of the fundamental ethical principles in practical situations when evaluating threats and identifying and applying safeguards in terms of the conceptual framework.

 

The ethics workshops will cover various aspects of the Code including:

 

  • Providing context to the development of the new IRBA Code;
  • Approaching ethics multi-culturally;
  • Setting out the conceptual framework of the Code and threats and safeguards;
  • Discussing independence issues for audit, review and other assurance engagements and giving examples of actual case studies;
  • Provide information on current topics such as 'public interest' and 'key audit partner'; and
  • Dealing with recurring ethical challenges that affect the auditing profession.

 

Through this workshop it is hoped that the ethical decision making skills of registered auditors and their staff will be improved and an understanding gained of the practical implementation of the Code in their firms and engagements.

 

Workshop format

Each workshop will be limited to a maximum of 50 delegates per group, booked on a first-come, first served basis. Once a workshop is filled up delegates will be notified to choose one of the alternative workshops where there is still capacity.

 

Who should attend?

Registered Auditors in practice, their professional managers and senior staff. These workshops are developed specifically for those involved in audit, independent reviews and other assurance engagements, dealing with ethical challenges on a daily basis and having to document their decisions on independence and other conflicts arising on their engagements and within their firms.

 

Programme

Registration commences at 09h00, 30 minutes before the session starts.

Workshops will commence at 09h30 and run until 13h00, with a tea break mid-session.

Continuing Professional Development

The training will contribute to 3.5 hours of CPD and certificates will be issued to attendees afterwards. This will form part of the 9 hours of compulsory ethics CPD required in a 3 year cycle with a minimum of 2 hours per annum.

 

Presenter/s

The presenters of these ethics workshops will be Prof. Martin Prozesky and Mr Uli Schäckermann. Below is a brief synopsis of each presenter's experience:

 

Prof Martin Prozesky - MA (Oxford), DPhil (Rhod)

  • Founding Director of Compass Ethics CC;
  • Emeritus Professor of Comparative and Applied Ethics and Senior Research Associate, University of Kwazulu-Natal (UKZN);
  • Experienced presenter on professional ethics workshops to the auditing profession since 2005;
  • Editor of Ethics for Accountants and Auditors (Oxford University Press Southern Africa, 2nd edition 2009); and
  • Author of Conscience: Ethical Intelligence for Global Well-Being (University of KZN Press, 2007).

 

Uli Schäckermann - CA (SA), B.Com (Wits), MA (AEP) (Wits), RA

  • Auditor in public practice for more than 30 years;
  • Senior partner in an international audit firm;
  • Member of the Committee for Auditor Ethics (IRBA);
  • Experienced presenter on professional ethics workshops for auditors on both the IFAC and IRBA Codes locally and internationally; and
  • Chair and member of audit committees.

 

Cost

The cost for attending the ethics workshop is R700.00 per person.

Terms and conditions

  1. Payment
    1. Bookings close eight working days prior to the session date.
    2. Should you not receive your tax invoice timeously please e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
    3. Delegates are required to make payments in advance and to submit proof of payment to the email address as stated on the invoice no later than five working days prior to the session date.
    4. Delegates enrolled within less than 7 working days prior to the session date will be requested to produce proof of payment on the day of the session.
    5. The IRBA's liability in the event of having to cancel a workshop will be limited to a refund of the session fee, if the cancellation was made more than 3 working days before the session.
  2. Substitutions
    1. You may arrange to send a substitute to attend the same session that you had booked for.
    2. Only written notification of substitutions will be accepted.
    3. Kindly advise the IRBA in writing of the substitute attendee at least 48 hours before the session.
  3. Transfers
    1. The IRBA must be informed in writing of requests to transfer your booking to a different date / venue.

  4. Cancellations

    2. Cancellations received later than 8 calendar days prior to the commencement of the session will be subject to the full fee.
